Program Overview

A goal of the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation (‘LoR”) is to put books into the hands of children at Canadian high-needs elementary schools.

The purpose of this online Indigo Adopt a School program is to provide a platform for fundraising for school library books and to raise awareness about the lack of funding for school library books. The program unites Indigo employees, customers, schools and communities in fundraising for new library books.

“Book Bonus”:

For every $20 online donation made to a participating school, LoR will donate $10.00 (the approximate value of 1 book) to the school, up to a maximum of $1,000 per school (the approximate value of 100 books). Any donation of less than $20 will not be matched by LoR and in the case of donations that are in increments of less than $20, LoR will match the donation to the lowest increment of $20 (e.g. for a $30 donation, LoR will donate $10 and for a $50 donation LoR will donate $20).

LoR represents donation totals by the number of books that can be purchased, based on the total of donations for a participating school. $10 of donations is equal to 1 book. All funds raised, matched and/or donated through the Adopt a School program are provided to participating schools in the form of an Indigo eGiftcard for the purchase of books, and the schools will receive a 30% discount off their book purchases when using program funds at Indigo, Chapters and Coles stores.

Tell a Story, Give a Story”:

Individuals can share a story or message in support of a participating school once they are registered on the Adopt a School website as a user. LoR will review all submissions and will determine, in its sole and absolute discretion, whether to select the submission as a featured story. For every story that is shared by supporting individuals and selected by LoR as a featured story, LoR will donate $10.00 (the approximate value of 1 book) to the participating school, to a maximum of $200.00 (the approximate value of 20 books).

The story submitted must be the story of the registered user, so please do not submit a story on behalf of a minor who is not old enough to participate as a user. All funds raised, matched and/or donated through the Adopt a School program are provided to participating schools in the form of an Indigo eGiftcard for the purchase of books, and the schools will receive a 30% discount off their book purchases when using program funds at Indigo, Chapters and Coles stores.

“Adopt a School Story Contest”

Registered users may participate in the Adopt a School Story Contest in support of a participating school by “liking” stories that have been submitted by the user herself/himself or another user. Each registered user is only able to vote once. Once a vote is cast, it cannot be changed.

Subject to the Adopt a School Story Contest rules, in each province, the top five most “hearted” stories will be entered into a random draw, for a chance to win* a $2,500 Indigo eGiftcard to purchase books. The remaining four top “hearted” schools in each province will win a $500 Indigo eGiftcard to purchase books. If there are two or more stories in the Top Five that are in support of the same school, the next most “hearted” story will be included to ensure that five different schools are entered into the random draw in each province.

All funds raised, matched and/or donated through the Adopt a School program are provided to winning schools in the form of an Indigo eGiftcard for the purchase of books, and the winning schools will receive a 30% discount off their book purchases at Indigo, Chapters and Coles stores.

*No purchase necessary. Contest opens September 16 – October 8, 2017 (“Contest Period”). Open to residents of Canada who: (i) are age of majority or older; (ii) are a registered Adopt a School user, and (iii) submit an entry. There are 11 Grand Prizes available to be won, one (1) for each Province listed in the full Contest Rules, each consisting of a $2,500 Indigo eGiftcard to purchase books, and forty-four (44) Secondary Prizes available to be won, four (4) for each Province listed in the full Contest Rules, each consisting of a $500 Indigo eGiftcard to purchase books. The Grand Prize has an aggregate approximate retail value (“ARV”) of $27,500 and the Secondary Prizes have an aggregate ARV of $22,000. To enter during the Contest Period, an Adopt a School member must submit a story in support of an Adopted School. If the story is approved and featured on the website, each approved story will have an opportunity to be read and voted on for the most likes. Each Adopt a School member has a limit of one (1) vote during the Contest Period. To qualify for the random draw, the Adopted School’s most liked story must be in the top (5) “hearted“ stories. Each Adopted School can only receive one (1) entry into the random draw. On October 11, 2017, the five (5) eligible entries for each Province will be entered into the random draw for the Grand Prize and Secondary Prizes. Odds of winning depend on the total number of entries for each Province, and for the chance of being a Grand Prize Winner, a 1:5 chance to be randomly selected from the eligible entries for each Province. Mathematical skill testing question required. For full contest rules click here.
