WESTMOUNT ELEMENTARY LOVES CHAPTERS/COLES/INDIGO! For the past two years we have been a huge supporter of the LOVE of READING foundation and hope to keep the magic alive with literacy by being selected again! The staff, the community, the parents and the kids most importantly were hugely on board! We love being an adopt a school and feel we promote literacy and reading each and every day!
Our School Learning Plan Intellectual goal has a focus on Digital Literacy. This is our goal because the modern meeting goes beyond reading and writing, it has been expanded to include the ability to use language, numbers, images, computers and systems of culture. As Yong Zhao states: "Reading and writing should be the floor, not the ceiling" which is why Westmount will focus on digital literacy with our students.
We would like to be considered for 2017-2018 so that we can continue the push for literacy that we already started this year. The donations and fundraising efforts have allowed us to do great things with our school and another year of support would only allow us to further expand our goals with literacy and information technology.
We have a keen, driven, passionate teacher librarian. She has turned the library into a learning commons with new tables and signage, green screens, chromebooks and using ipads. But updated collections of books are always her top priority. She and I both see that reading is a passion of our kids and we need to keep them engaged with new titles constantly. Similarly, information technology is also our mandate with the ReDesigned Curriculum.
We hope you will consider us for the ADOPT A SCHOOL PROGRAM FOR 2017-2018.
We have a strong PAC group as well that will no doubt support us in the fundraising initiatives.
We look forward to hearing if we will be selected.

I am a grade 5 teacher at Westmount. Each year, I offer Scholastic book orders to my class; however, there are always at least 10 of my students that never get the opportunity to expand their home libraries. I am passionate about having new books that appeal to my students and foster a ...
Reading is important to me because it allows me to go to another place. It's also forces me to relax, and can be very addicting, depending on the story I am reading. Reading is something I use to connect with my students in my classroom and my very own children. Bedtime reads are sometimes ...
Reading is the core to learning! It is the foundation that all children need in order to move ahead in this fast paced world. When our kids were young we read to them and listened to them read and now they share the love of reading for life!
I use the literacy program "The Daily 5". One of the cornerstones of that program is that students get to choose from an abundance of books. Every two weeks I take 200 books out of our school library for children to choose from. EVERY BOOK COUNTS!! Thank you!

I love reading. I read every single day and now I'm starting to see my children develop a love of reading. They have their favourite authors that they can't get enough of. I am also really enjoying introducing them to some of my favourite authors when I was a kid such as Judy Blume and ...
