Warburg, Alberta 166 / 100 Books Given

Principal Erin Danforth We serve a 100% Aboriginal student population, all of whom live below the national poverty level. Many of our students do not have access to quality reading materials (or ANY reading materials) at home and our school library is sadly lacking. Our teachers do what they can to offer interesting and engaging books for our children to read but often have to do it out of their own pockets. Consequently, our classroom libraries are sparse. Being able to provide interesting and engaging reading material for our students is hugely important. Your assistance in this regard would be so very appreciated.

Favourite books The kids here LOVE books like; Elephant and Piggie by Mo Willems, they really enjoy Dork Diaries and Diary of a Wimpy Kid. They enjoy books about hockey...sooooo many books about hockey! The older students love to be scared and will read anything creepy. They also love books by John Green. All ages appreciate books like Ripley's Believe it or Not and The Guinness Book of Records and image-rich non-fiction are popular as well.

Mother Earth's Children's Charter School September 10, 2018

A book in each child's hands...that is our goal this year. Seems simple, right? You would think that most elementary-aged children have access to reading materials that are age and level appropriate but the reality for many children in our school and in their community is that fewer than 50% of t...
