Grand Marais, Manitoba 119 / 104 Books Given

Principal Gloria Juvonen We are a small rural school with a very small budget, not close to a public library, so it is hard to provide books to get every student excited about reading. That wouldn't be so bad if it was just an elementary school but we are a K-Grade 9. There are so many great books out there and so little money. Every year I pick one section (picture books, 1st chapter books, JF, TF, Graphic Novel or Non- fiction) as my focus to add the majority of books. I go to all the book sales and pick up as many books as I can that are on sale so I get more bang for my buck. It is hard sometimes when you get to the cash register and don't have enough money and have to start putting books back. I think this is a great incentive and every school wins just by participating. Thank you so much for doing this.

I am so proud of my students and all the followers who voted for our story.  It is a nail biter this year.  We keep getting into the top 5 then getting bumped out. We are putting up a good fight and hope to get back into the top 5 by the time the contest is over.  The students are ...

In today’s classes I had the students design what their library would look like.  They were so excited and had so many great ideas (food and books not really my choice!  They did so well and I want to include a picture of some of their designs.
