At Bowcroft we have a diverse population, who have not yet developed a love of reading. Adding books that are current and high interest will help to hook students into reading. We have many students who are reading below grade level. We need to update our library collection to include books that are at grade level and meet the curricular outcomes. The books are falling apart, outdated, not attractive to students and they smell!

"Reading is awesome! That's what every child should say! As an early elementary teacher exposure to books is paramount to their success! They read because they want to read and need books that are interesting and current. Books that catch their attention, books that make them laugh! One of my favorite authors is Robert Munsch. I recently read by students his book Red. It had a great message about listening to your voice and not wanting to like others but be happy with yourself that you don't need to "change" your hair color to match someone else's! (Even if drinking a bottle of hot sauce would do the trick!) I support books for all schools but particularly schools with limited funds and resources as they often don't have these resources readily at home!!! Learning to read and having books to read is a gift! It's good for our heart, mind and soul! "

"As a child I was an avid reader - - reading at the table during meals, reading in my closet by a bed lamp strung over the clothes rod and reading under a blanket in bed. I am delighted that my grandchildren also have a strong love of reading. It is a wonderful gift inspired in part by their parents commitment to bedtime stories. "

The school needs better quality books that are more attractive and can ignite students' passion. Having more up to date books will encourage the students to read more. Books are a great escape for students and they can be taken to another place on new adventures. Sharing the passion for reading is a fundamental part of learning and schools. New books will be an amazing compliment to the new Learning Commons at Bowcroft."

I was blessed to be brought up by a reader and I live in a house filled with books, books about every one of my interests as well as fiction. My children have been raised by a reader. I kept reading aloud to them until they were in Junior High- as long as they would tolerate it. Everyone deserves to have access to books. Books can change the trajectory of a life."
