Douglas Harkness SchoolCalgary, Alberta 55 / 290 Books Given
Principal Laura Devitt
We are a school in a high needs area in Calgary where many of our students do not have access to books at home. Many of our parents do not speak or read in English to be able to read with their children nightly, and do not have books written in their language of origin.
Our collection is small but well-loved and we strive to offer good literature to students to ignite a lifelong passion for reading. Our Parent Council does some activities to help provide extra library books, however for the past few years we have not been able to have an active Parent Society that could do fundraising that would raise larger amounts for donation. Many of our books are becoming outdated and we would like to be able to refresh our collection to offer students more current and exciting choices.

Ensuring that every child finds joy in reading will help to create the opportunities children need to engage in learning both at school and in the world. The more that children learn and the more excited they are about reading and learning the better able they are to achieve all that they dream.
