Who is your favourite character from a children's book and why?

"My favourite character from a children's book is Ivan from The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate. Ivan was a silverback gorilla who lived in an enclosure that was in the Exit 8 Big Top Mall and Video Archade. Throughout the book you are given an idea of what an animal who lives in captivity may feel. Although he accepts his way of life in the beginning after a while he grows dissatisfied with what he and his friends have had to live with and realizes that he has to find a way to change it. I fell in love with this character because of his love for his friends and his tenacity and creativity in trying to save them. "

What is your favourite memory from your elementary school library and why?

"When I attended Elementary School in the 1960's, we did not have a Library in our school. Once weekly the Bookmobile would come to the school. They would park outside near the entrance. Our classroom walked into the Bookmobile. It was a huge bus with the sides lined with library books. The Librarian sat at the front of the bus and when you were ready to take out your library book, she would use the sign out card and stamp your book.

It was a very exciting time for all of the students. I know the Bookmobile was still used until the 1980's. "
