Principal David cooper Seaview is the furthest North and furthest West school in Nanaimo. It is the only SD68 public school located in the township of Lantzville. It has a diverse demographic that mirrors a "slice of Nanaimo"; it contains a range of upper-middle class to lower socio-economic class. Over 20% of the student population is of Aboriginal descent and there are many multi-generational families making Seaview have the feel of being a community school. Our goal for the next couple years is to improve student writing, by building confidence and fostering the enjoyment of writing for students. Having a strong and up to date library is essential to assist us with this goal so that we can continue to foster students’ passion and enjoyment in reading and enhance their writing skills. Keeping school libraries up to date is costly, with the constant need to acquire new books to keep up to the students’ demands, meeting the new curriculum adaptations and teachers’ requests. The popular books need regular updating as the books become bent and torn after being taken home so many times and some getting lost. We do not always receive payments for these missing books. Our non-fiction section and early children's books could use updating and some of these books are becoming too worn to send home. Our school budget does not meet the ever demanding needs of maintaining and updating our library.
