Principal Jason Gordon We have a student population with higher than average needs, including reluctant readers and below-grade level readers. Our collection grows slowly with our limited school based funding. Although we plan to start focusing more on library fundraising, our library technician and teacher librarian hours have not been sufficient to give grant writing adequate time and effort in recent years. Our school library funding puts us well below the Adopt a School threshold of $30 per student, and our kids are always hungry for interesting new books. This year, we added a smattering of great titles to each section, with emphasis on easy non fiction. Our nonfiction and picture book sections need heavy weeding to make room for updated titles. We are also seeing lots of enthusiasm for popular chapter book series and graphic novels. They are especially fun for some kids who can be harder to engage with traditional literature. Seeing kids grow in confidence as their reading improves is super rewarding! We want to keep adding new books so we can keep interest in reading high for all our Dr. Brass Bears!

Favourite books We have polled our upper elementary classes to see what books they love the most. The top choice for Gr 6/7 is The Dog Lover's Guide! We also took a picture of some of their other favourites. These kids have a great range of reading tastes!

The top book selections for Gr 7/8 are The Hunger Games and Haunted Canada, tied for first place! They also love a wide variety of fiction with an emphasis on adventure and fantasy/sci fi.
