Christopher Lake, Saskatchewan 875 / 165 Books Given

Principal Roy Feschuk Children’s author, Frank Serafini suggests, “There is no such thing as a child who hates to read; there are only children who have not found the right book.”
Christopher Lake Public School believes this to be true. Over the summer of 2017, staff and administrators have created a warm, appealing space, with comfortable seating and pillows. The décor is a blend of trendy, culture and nature –a combination that fits in so well with our community and demographics. We even have a tipi for quiet reading. It is very exciting to hear our children talk about our “awesome library”.
Still, there is one thing lacking –the book collection. Any time spent in the Christopher Lake Public School library, you will see the books that our children being home in their back packs, you can’t help but notice the age and condition of much of the library’s collection. In this day and age, where technology is readily in the palm of our hands, it is a challenge for a “book” to be the choice for kids. Consider the task of trying to instill the value and importance of reading in a world where engaging apps and games on iPads are being challenged by tattered, dog eared books that has been taped and repaired numerous times, and most being published thirty plus years ago? We are in dire need of updating our library’s books to keep our children motivated readers.
