Principal Jodi Kuczynski Cut backs to the school means less funding for the library. The majority of our books are over 20 years old. The nonfiction section is so outdated that a lot of the information contained in it is no longer relevant.
We have very caring and giving teachers in our school who personally purchase books for their avid readers in each grade. The school and community come together once a year for the Scholastic Fair. This helps us put new books in the library, the draw back is that we can only use our bonus points with them.
Non fiction books are expensive and we do not have the funds to replace what needs to be replaced.
I am always looking for ways to find funding for the library, being in a small community it is very difficult, some people believe that books are a thing of the past, I've been a librarian for over 28yrs. and I know that children still appreciate holding a book in their hands and learning to read and be taken away to magical places.
