Holy TrinityCalgary, Alberta 351 / 200 Books Given
Principal Robert Ranger
Most of our collection of student books is over 20 years old and most of our families do not have books at home and struggle to meet basic needs. Our population of new Canadians is over 60%. We have a couple of fundraising initiatives that we do in the school year, but our school community is limited in our fundraising capacity. Another new need for our school is the fact that our playground was removed last year and now we have another expensive competing cost to replace our playground.
We continue to focus on making our Learning Commons the hub of our school and literacy is a core focus for us at our school. We also incorporate as much relevant technology as possible to engage our 21st century learners. It is great to see that our students and families are so appreciative of our efforts to enhance the learning opportunities in our school.

In grade 6 our teacher would read books about Greek Mythology. She read The Odyssey to our class for 1/2 hour every day. I enjoyed the mythical creatures and adventures in these books. There was something intriguing about travelling into the past and learning about the Greek Gods and Goddesses.
The children’s book that had the biggest impact on me is called “Franny B Kranny There’s a Bird in Your Hair”. As someone with curly hair and a stubborn streak it was amazing to identify with a character who stuck to her guns in such a comedic way.
