Edmonton, Alberta 68 / 540 Books Given

Principal Robert Steenwinkel Our school is a new community school that opened last September. We have a growing collection of library books that includes a small amount of classroom books and some home reading program books. We are a K-9 school in a rapidly developing community that houses families with very diverse cultural and socioeconomic needs.

As our first year progressed, teachers discovered that some of their favourite books that compliment what they were teaching were not part of our collection. We have participated in book fairs which were very helpful in allowing us to add more home reading books for the school. As our school grows, our resources also need to grow. We are working on trying to build up a library that meets the needs of all the teachers and students within our school. We need books to help teach children who are learning english basic vocabulary, books that help teach children regulation strategies, social stories to help mediate behaviour challenges, and books that are just great for sparking creativity and grow their love for reading. The teachers have many books they would like to have purchased to use for literacy groups and for reading clubs. Our selection of junior fiction and fiction books are slowly growing and the students are often asking for sequels to novels that they can't wait to read! Students are asking for books on a daily basis that I would love to be able to purchase to help enhance their love of reading and to promote literacy throughout the school. We have the beginnings of a great library, please help it grow.
