David Hornell JS

Etobicoke, Ontario 309 / 237 Books Given

Principal Beverly Tratnik David Hornell Junior School is a small school of enthusiastic children full of potential. A good library is key to helping light up their minds for learning. However, our books are falling behind our children’s interests and abilities.

Our collection is outdated, worn out, and a poor reflection of our community. The average age of books in our library is 20 years old. Many of the books have torn covers and taped pages after years of repeated use and we lack books that include information on major technological, cultural and environmental changes that have occurred in the last two decades. Last year, our school budget only allowed for $16 per student for additions or replacements to our collection. Our small literacy budget and limited ability to fundraise through our immediate community mean that we cannot replenish and revive our collection in a meaningful way. Our library is holding back our kids.

We want to engage our students with books that reflect their lives and expand their understanding of the world. We are calling on your support to help us reach our goal of adding 237 new books to our library – one book for every student in our school.

We want to foster a love of reading in our young students. New books will encourage and support their curiosity and spirit of learning.

Being a part of the Adopt a School program could be instrumental in the improvement of our library and potentially life-changing for the children we strive to serve. We hope you will choose to donate to David Hornell Junior School.

Thank you!
