Father Michael Mireau Elementary/Junior HighEdmonton, Alberta 125 / 794 Books Given
Principal Nicoletta Papanicolas
Father Michael Mireau Elementary/Junior High is a new school (we opened in September 2018) and we are still seeking to fill the shelves in our Learning Commons (library) with books! We serve a large, diverse student population. We have many English as a Second Language students (ESL), First Nations, Metis and Inuit (FMNI) and students with special needs. As a result, our students all come with a variety of learning requirements. We strongly believe in academic excellence for all students, and we strive to provide our students with the attitudes, skills and knowledge (as set forth by the eight Alberta Education competencies) required to be successful citizens. We believe in the power of books to help us achieve the development of these competencies: critical thinking, problem solving, managing information, creativity and innovation, communication, collaboration, cultural and global citizenship and personal growth and well-being. Having a Learning Commons filled with books for every learner will help us to fulfill this mission.
“There are many little ways to enlarge your child’s world. Love of books is the best of all!”
–Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis
