Woodcrest P.S.Oshawa, Ontario 922 / 364 Books Given
Principal Tara Paterson
Woodcrest was built in 1952 and the library is the size of a large classroom. We serve a large population of students from the low socioeconomic Rideau Townhouse Complex, as well as students in homes or rental units.
Our library could really use an update of new books that are more diverse and are reflective of the multicultural faces of our students sitting in our classrooms. Most of our books stick close to the traditional, and very white literary canon.
Our students would greatly benefit from the opportunity to read new books from exciting non-fiction texts, and books that support the new History and Social Studies Curriculum, and the Forest of Reading books.
A lot of our students don't have the opportunity to go to Indigo to buy new books. How very exciting it would be to fill up our library shelves with real, quality literature.
I would greatly welcome the opportunity to go book shopping for fresh and engaging texts to turn our students into real readers. Readers become future leaders.

I am so very happy to be a part of this awesome program that will help to put brand new books into the hands of hopefully every student in my school.
