Princess Alexandra SchoolHay River, Northwest Territories 249 / 165 Books Given
Principal Carolyn Carroll For many years our school library received a generous gift from the estate of a local educator; however the final proceeds from this fund were distributed several years ago. Princess Alexandra School was renovated in 2002 but our library did not get the same facelift as the rest of the school. With the decreasing student population and limited public funds our school budget has become increasingly tight. As a result, the budget for library books has been diminished and some of our books are over 20 years old. We continue to add some newer books to our library from funds raised by hosting book fairs during our three-way conferences. For the past few years our students have wanted various book titles that we are unable to purchase because of these funding cuts. Our books are becoming increasingly worn and the information in many of them is no longer current. We have a beautiful library in or school and our students love spending time in the library, however we need access newer books that are up to date and inviting.
