Coalbanks ElementaryLethbridge, Alberta 479 / 489 Books Given
Principal Joey Gentile
Coalbanks Elementary School is currently in its first year of operation, with a population of 489 students that is expected to reach 540 for 2018-19. With a current collection of just over 5,000 books, we are off to a good start but still have a long way to go to build the kind of collection that will support student needs for years to come.
Our school’s strong commitment to literacy is demonstrated it in a variety of ways. We have regular class visits to the library/learning commons for opportunities to hear stories and choose books, Grade 1 Parent Literacy Night, Rocky Mountain Book Award Club for grade 4/5 students, and Spanish Family Nights in support of our Spanish Bilingual program.
At this time, we are looking to fill noticeable gaps in our collection, primarily in certain non-fiction areas, graphic novels, chapter books, and Spanish resources, as identified primarily through student wish lists. Support from the Adopt-a-School program would be an enormous help in achieving these goals. Thank you for your consideration!
