Major General Griesbach School

Edmonton, Alberta 107 / 550 Books Given

Principal Brent Zmurchik At Major General Griesbach School we pride ourselves in encouraging literacy every day. We do our best to expose all of our students (kindergarten to grade 9) to a variety of literature and learning experiences. We work hard to instill a love of reading and writing.

Our students get to enjoy books through their weekly library block, daily guided reading, home reading, buddy reading, book clubs, etc. We also hold used book sales, and twice a year we host a Scholastic Book Fair. We encourage students to get library cards from the public library and twice a year the EPL staff come in to talk about and promote the YRCA books and the Summer Reading Program.

We currently do not have a library budget. In the past five years that I have been at MGG, the MGG Fundraising Society has graciously given us some funds to update our library books and some of the classroom resources. Many of the resources that we had were old, falling apart, and in need of serious repair.

The demographic of our neighborhood is a wide mix of students from different backgrounds (including a large group of English Language Learners) and different income levels.

We do our best to use our resources wisely and to teach students to respect them. They get excited when we have new books for the library and for our other programs.

If chosen, we at Major General Griesbach School would be extremely grateful and our students would be very excited to be a part of this program. We make it our goal to spark a passion for reading, and having up-to-date books that students love to get their hands on is very exciting!

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
Stacey Wasileyko
