Dr. J. Edgar DaveyHamilton, Ontario 140 / 530 Books Given
Principal Mary Finstad Dr. J. Edgar Davey’s school catchment boundaries have recently changed, thus increasing our student population. We have 75% ELL (English Language Learners), most of which come from Somalian refugee camps and have never been in school. We are located in the most impoverished area in Hamilton and as such, our families struggle to meet their daily needs. Our focus as a school is to assist these families in doing the best they can, working within whatever budget constraints are imposed by the Board and the Ministry. Because of this, we feel it is important to give these students the best possible chance in life there is; education. In order to do this, it is imperative that we have our library stocked with diverse genres in all levels for the students to access here at school. We want our students to develop a love for reading. We offer many book clubs at the school in order to encourage life long readers.
