Nose Creek Elementary's saying is “Learn to Read Love to Read” And I think it’s an amazing saying that goes a long way in every child’s day to day. If we can’t read we honestly can’t go very far in life. Our kids will struggle in life and will struggle in their social life. I’m very proud to call this school our home and very excited that my two daughters are reading and loving to read.
As a parent I think the two important things in a child’s life are music and reading. I played music for my girl’s every night while they slept and napped, I would read them a book before bed or while we were just sitting on the floor playing. I love to read and wanted my daughters to love reading as well.
When my oldest daughter started going to Nose Creek Elementary in 2012 she came home with home reading. She was so excited to start reading these books. Little did she know how hard it was going to be but all so rewarding. She started to grow as a reader and student faster than I thought possible. In grade three she started to hate reading, it was like pulling teeth to get her to read. Our learning support assistant that works in the library was very quick to help me help my daughter get back to loving books. She took the time to get to know my daughter and found a connection with her, she would put books in a bin for her that she thought she would like to read. My daughter started to pick up books and started to sit and read again. She is now in grade 5 and loves to read even more than last year. She is connecting with her books and actually getting involved in the story. Reading for her is enjoyable and I think that every child should have the opportunity to have the opportunity to enjoy reading in their life and school.
