My early years in school were difficult and I generally spent more time in the hallway than I did in the classroom. I was managed at school more than I was encouraged and it wasn't until grade 4 when our school librarian took an interest in me that I really began to flourish. Mrs. Messiah noticed me and instead of seeing a problem, she saw an opportunity. Reading was something I already enjoyed, but I wasn't comfortable finding my way around the library and tended to read the books I was familiar with over and over again; she changed all of that. Mrs. Messiah took the time to find books of all different genres and styles that might resonate with me. Over the three years that I knew her, she introduced me to everything from biography to Shakespeare and inspired a lifelong passion for literature. Now, working in the Greenway library, I am constantly on the look out for the opportunity to spread my passion for books, knowledge, learning and adventure to the bright young minds that I work with everyday.
