I’ve been asked the question multiple times, and the answer is so easy: my Mom. Our parents are our first teachers, and she taught me to love reading. Being a passionate reader herself, my Mom shared this passion with me from a very young age. With books like Splish Splashy Day, Cinderella, and Are You My Mother?, to The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, Where the Red Fern Grows and Harry Potter. She showed me all the adventures I could have, the people I could meet and the places I could go when I opened the pages. We shared in laughter, tears, failures and triumphs with these books.
This time and those books left such an impact on me that now, as a teacher, I have read these books to my students. For many years I have read The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe to my students to watch them get as excited as I did as we follow Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter in their adventures. I can only hope that sharing my passion of reading, like my Mom did, can instill the same passion into my students and create this ripple effect for years to come.
Thank you Mom, for giving me the most amazing gift.
