I am posting this story for my Uncle. He shared with me one day, a story behind his love of reading. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Keep in mind kids, how many years ago this was - go to bed early, get to school on time every day and always remember to read!
"When I entered grade seven in 1962, the powers that be made an announcement that if you got an "A" in reading, the Alderwood library would issue you an adult library card one year early!!! By that point, I already had become an avid reader and was so, so done with the children's section🙄. One of the best moments of my life was taking my report card to the librarian to get my new card. I think it very unlikely that anyone in grades seven or eight EVER read more library books than I did in those two years of junior school. Sounds like a silly claim, doesn't it? The reason I think it likely to be true is that from grade 7 on my Mom NEVER made me go to school if I didn't want to! Meaning, if I was up late reading..."
"I missed a stunning number of school days from grade 7 to grade 13. God bless Mom."
As an epilogue to this story, my Uncle's love of reading developed into a passion and outside of his career, he spends time with his family book hunting and enjoys everything the written word has to offer!
