I would consider The Monster at the End of This Book to be one of the most impactful books of my youth. We bought the book at a bookstore in downtown Edmonton back in the 1970’s after swimming lessons at the “Y”. I would say that it’s impactful because I very clearly remember not only the book itself, but all of the circumstances surrounding it. I had been looking through the picture books and came across this book. I loved Grover and was intrigued by the title. I sat on the floor and read it from cover to cover and was surprised to discover that the monster was Grover! My little mind was blown and for the first time I remember how a book made me FEEL. After that, I was hooked. I bought that book for my own children many, many years later and have read it to countless classes of children...always hoping to see the same flash of interest in a child’s eyes.
