It was a group effort. Wanting to do everything my big brothers did, I hounded my mum until she taught me how to read when I was three. I can remember sitting at the kitchen table copying her abc's in my Care Bear notebook while she made dinner. (I still have the notebook!)
My grade 1 teacher, Mrs. Lynch, was the best and most encouraging teacher I ever had. When she realized how much I liked to read she would get me to help the other kids.
Reading was like a puzzle to me, and I still love it dearly.
