My dad helped me fall in love with reading. Whenever he took a trip, he would bring me back a picturebook from the place he had travelled to. My favourite of these was one called Millicent by Jeannie Baker. The setting for the story is Hyde Park in Sydney, Australia. The story is about an old woman who makes friends with the pigeons in the park. I’m not sure why it was my favourite. I suppose I liked to think of this place on the other side of the world where the sun shines while we sleep. When I grew up I made a trip to Australia. It was such fun to see the fountains, buildings and of course the many pigeons in Hyde park that were depicted in my favourite childhood book. I took lots of pictures to share with my dad.
