The one person in my life who had the greatest influence on my love for reading was my mother! We did not have books in our home like the children have today so mom would use everything at her disposal to teach us words and then sentences! She made those times fun for us and we were reading before entering school. Personally, I read everything I could get my hands on, from cereal boxes to schoolbooks and any library book I could get my hands on! Many nights after the dinner dishes were done, mom would be in her chair reading while my sister and I would be on the chesterfield doing the same thing. She modelled what a reader was and taught us how much we could learn through reading. It was because of my mother that I went on to University and chose English as a major in my first degree and through her influence, I passed on the love of reading to my children.
