The Paper Bag Princess was a staple in my house. It was my mom's favourite book to read. She told me it was because she was a feminist, at the time I did not know what that meant. She would explain how she loved it because even though everybody expected Elizabeth would end up with Ronald, the way he treated her was unacceptable, so she left. Moreover, it was not just about Elizabeth dancing off into the sunset, but rather that she - a little girl- had been able to outsmart a dragon. Basically, my mom tried to teach me through this book that growing up I could be any anything and do anything that I wanted. Plus of course, this book taught me the importance of not judging anything based on appearances but rather the importance of finding out about people's stories and adventures. As a mother I hope to pass on the lessons of this book to my own children.
