The first chapter book I ever remember reading was Charlotte's Web. I can remember sitting in my grandmothers house one summer and finding my aunts old copy of the book and being intrigued. I read the book in a day or two, and I got so lost in the story - it was another world! I so clearly remember the characters and the descriptions, and I loved Charlotte. I cried so hard at the end of the book when - spoiler alert - Charlotte dies. After that first book, I remember my grandmother taking me her local school library, where she was the cross walk guard, and checking out books for me to read when I visited. Charlotte's Web spun a love affair with books that continues to this day. My mother says she would often find me with a flash light under the covers reading as a young girl, and these days I find my son doing the same. I loved the book so much that I read it aloud to my younger brother and to my own children. I hope that every child can fall in love with reading, and I know that having access to school library books is key in that happening!
