As a child, I had no idea that in my late teens I would be diagnosed with a learning disability. Some things came so easily to me, reading did not. I remember how incredible it was for me to have a teacher read a novel to my class during a read aloud. The story came to life for me. Unfortunately, many children, like me, can’t make that happen unless a story comes from someone else reading it. I was so fortunate to have been at a school where my teachers were able to choose from a variety of novels. I only hope I can provide the same kind of inspiration to my students.
