First, I believe every library should have the book, "The Giving Tree", by Shel Silverstein. This beautifully written children's book is about an enduring friendship between a tree and a boy and touches my heart every time I read it. It is a great story for teaching empathy. My next pick would have to be "Charlotte's Web", by E.B. White. This novel touches on themes of dedicated friendship and love along with compassion and sacrifice. This book was a favourite for me to read to my own children and I recall many great discussions after our night time reading. It's possible that maybe a tear or two was shed after reading it!! Finally, no library would be complete without the "Harry Potter" series by J.K. Rowling. This series is masterfully written and takes the reader on a journey to a magical place. The descriptive writing of J.K. paints a vivid picture for the reader to enjoy and I don't know anyone who's read it that isn't hooked after the first book!!
