I am not a ballerina. I never was and pretty much every picture of me in my tutu is just that, a picture of a kid in a tutu. But I went to ballet every week for a year from age 6-7. My mother loved ballet. She would bring me to practise and put a small dab of red lipstick on my lips and cheeks. That part was fun. She would also take me to McDonalds and we would eat cheeseburgers and fries in the car in the parking lot of the ballet school until it was time to go in. This was fun too. The best part of this time however, was when she would reach into the back of the car and present me with my weekly book. My mother taught me to read when I was 4 years old and I've been an avid reader since. I still have those books, and when I'm feeling nostalgic, I dig them out and they bring back so many warm memories for me. Receiving those weekly books from my Mum was the best part of my short, uneventful ballet career.
