Port Elgin has always been a special school to me. A small, rural school with a lot of heart, it has been instrumental in my education in becoming the teacher I am today. I started volunteering here as a university student, and then they welcomed me as a practicum student while I was doing my education degree. I progressed to covering my mentor's maternity leave and then becoming a consistent supply teacher here for several years. I'm now teaching her on contract part-time, and have become heavily involved in creating an outdoor classroom for our kindergarten kids, writing arts grants and attending all our school events! This is a small community with a lot of struggles, but we love our kids and know each and every one of their challenges and successes. The principle is innovative and supportive and I'm so excited to be a part of this school's continuing journey.
