My love of reading undoubtedly comes from my Mom. Very early on, she would tell me how rich an experience reading was. Books and reading were tightly interwoven into my life from an early age.
I remember clearly her making me SO look forward to starting school so that I could get busy learning to read so I could begin to tackle some of the books we were lucky enough to have at home. Sesame Street was taking care of some of the fundamentals, but REALLY learning to read required focus!
The library at Port Elgin Regional was my first exposure to a school library. Seeing that concentration of books, that pile of data, information, history, and Clifford the Big Red Dog will always stay with me.
It spawned a love, and perhaps even an addiction, to reading, data and learning.
Not that many years later, my Mom became the librarian there. Aside from the annoyance of other students making a point of telling Mom we had a math test that day to ensure she'd know to ask me how I did on it, it also cemented more tightly my linkage between my first library and the person who got me hooked on its contents.
