When I was a child, before television, mobile devices and all the distractions of electronic games, a good book was a place to crawl into, alone and in quiet. There I would encounter fascinating people, breathtaking adventures , and places that drew me into worlds beyond my imagining. Through reading I was launched into so many wonders of the world that I yearned to explore. Half a century later a good book is still my favourite retreat and my greatest pleasure.
