I would say my parents helped me fall in love with reading. They always had books going, would take my brothers and I to the library regularly and were more than happy to let us order from the school book orders or book fairs. Growing up in a house of readers, I still look forward to starting a new read and know that it’s something I wanted to pass down to my kids as well. As a mom, my kids and I love our Indigo nights, where we grab a Starbucks drink and spend time browsing the store until we all find something to bring home. As a teacher, it’s exciting to share great stories with my class and watch them hang onto every word. A series that I really enjoy using in my class is the “Elephant and Piggie” series, by Mo Willems. Not only are they funny and highly engaging, I can use them to teach so many parts of the curriculum. Every year, there are always kids that go home asking their parents for the books too!
