The book that had the greatest impact on my life when I was a child was “Where The Wild Things Are” by Maurice Sendak. What made the story so powerful to me was the message that your imagination can give you the power to reimagine your circumstances. It also gives you the freedom to escape while investing you with newfound empathy. Max learns that being in charge doesn’t necessarily make life easier. He also realizes that escape is only part of the journey back to ourselves. Being free is a state of mind and we are freeest when we allow the story of our life to teach us something.
