Why is reading important to you?

To me, reading is important not only because it is a fundamental life skill but also because it provides readers so much joy! While reading has a functional purpose in day-to-day life, allowing people to follow instructions (such as cooking recipes or even driving directions) and to keep informed, it also allows people to see the world from a variety of perspectives that they wouldn't normally be able to understand. Through reading, you can put yourself in the shoes of your neighbour or even in the shoes of someone half way across the world! Reading also allows you to feel a spectrum of emotions and to empathize with others. It bridges difference and connects people all over the world. Without reading, our world would be small.
